Riverside Convention Center
Two custodial staff cover twelve locations at Riverside Convention Center, including six restrooms, through events with more than 4,000 people in the building. Clean+Inspect was brought in to answer a question the schedule could not: is two enough?
A staffing question that needed evidence, not an opinion.
At an event center, sanitation across the facility is a core part of the service. An unclean environment costs you the visitor experience, and keeping up with demand on an event day is genuinely difficult for a small custodial team.
Riverside Convention Center brought in TRAX Clean+Inspect across twelve unique locations in the facility, six of them restrooms.
The management question underneath the deployment is one every venue faces. Riverside runs its cleaning with two custodial staff members, and wanted to know whether a third was needed to hold standards through events with over 4,000 people attending. That is a payroll decision, and it deserved data.
The Challenge
Riverside set three goals. Ensure electrostatic sanitation procedures were completed during every cleaning. Use restroom trend data to plan cleaning schedules around events rather than around the clock. And observe and track cleaning durations of six minutes for each member of the custodial team, so the standard was a measured thing rather than an assumed one.
Behind those sat the staffing question. Two custodial staff currently cover the facility. Management wanted to establish, from evidence, whether a third was needed to hold standards during events with more than 4,000 people in attendance — the kind of decision that is usually made on instinct and defended afterwards.
The Solution
TRAX installed Clean+Inspect across twelve unique locations in the facility, including six restrooms. That gave management full visibility of cleaning activity across the center: which custodial team member performed the cleaning in a given location, how much time was spent on the task, and how many cleaning procedures were carried out during high-traffic, heavy-occupancy events.
The deployment used the system’s beacons and sensors, access and guidance on operating the web and mobile applications, and TRAX reports generated from the collected custodial data.
That last piece is what turns the deployment into an answer. A count of cleanings during a 4,000-person event, set against who did them and how long each took, is the input a staffing decision actually needs.
What TRAX deployed
- Clean+Inspect across twelve unique locations in the facility, including six restrooms
- Beacons and sensors providing cleaning activity data by location
- Access and guidance on the TRAX web and mobile applications
- Visibility of which custodial team member cleaned which location
- Time spent on each cleaning task, tracked against the six-minute standard
- Counts of cleaning procedures completed during high-traffic, heavy-occupancy events
- TRAX reports generated from the collected custodial data
The Benefits
- Confirmation that electrostatic sanitation procedures were completed on every cleaning, rather than assumed
- Cleaning schedules planned around event trend data instead of a fixed daily rotation
- Cleaning durations measured against the six-minute standard, per team member
- Event-day cleaning volumes recorded, giving the staffing question an evidence base
- Inspection activity and duration tracked, so quality control is visible alongside the cleaning itself
The Clean+Inspect trial period produced cleaning durations of six minutes or more, over 500 cleaning tasks completed in 90 days, over 200 cleaning alerts completed in 90 days, more than 30 inspections completed, and a 40-minute average inspection duration. Riverside was pleased enough with the system to adopt SmartRestroom in early 2022, with the intent of optimizing cleaning frequencies automatically and analyzing visitor data to support operational management.
“Our partnership here at Riverside Convention Center with TRAX Analytics through the use of the Clean + Inspect systems has enhanced our reporting capabilities and streamlined our custodial operations significantly. This application has exceeded performance expectations, and we’re now able to monitor cleaning activity, generate work orders and will soon see visitor activity in one easy-to-use system. The data the TRAX system has provided for us takes the leg work out of administrative tasks and identifies where we can improve facility management and save money. We’d highly recommend any facility (large or small) who utilizes custodial services to partner with TRAX which will incur savings in both time and money.”
