Join us in celebrating Spanish Heritage Month as Patrick Trevino shares what it means to him.

  1. What does National Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you?

Spanish Heritage Month means a lot to me. I tend to remind myself of all the struggles and sacrifices that my mother made to help me get to where I am today. It reminds me that, as Latinos, we still have much work to do to continue to help our communities. Spanish Heritage Month also serves as a reminder of how much the Latin community means to the success of our country. It feels great to have our heritage have a dedicated month. Over the past couple of years, we have seen a significant increase in pop culture including our music, food, and traditions. So, Spanish Heritage Month, makes me happy to be “seen” and recognized.

  1. What memory or tradition reminds you most of your heritage?

For those who know me, it’s the music and dancing. My family comes from Ecuador and Puerto Rico, so music is in our DNA! I remember having family gatherings and having music from all over South America and the Caribbean blending together to bring us joy. It’s funny how much music – can bring us all together.

  1. What is your favorite Spanish recipe? Or food?

Ceviche!
