Norman Y. Mineta San José International Airport

Norman Y. Mineta San José International Airport is the second busiest airport in the San Francisco Bay Area and services ten (10) different airlines across two terminals. In 2020, Flagship Facility Services was contracted to provide janitorial services to both Terminal A and Terminal B, where they identified the need to include technology to support their new cleaning needs and frequencies.

Flagship implemented the TRAX Clean+Inspect and SmartRestroom solutions to monitor their staff’s compliance with cleaning frequency requirements and quality control. TRAX installed a Bluetooth badging system at each restroom and equipped each janitor with a battery powered Bluetooth badge. The badging solution registers every time a janitor arrives to the restroom, their duration of cleaning, and when they left. This data is used to ensure staff and contract compliance.

Flagship is able to view live reports of cleaning frequencies and durations of each cleaning straight from the TRAX platform. Furthermore, reports are exported as needed to support quarterly reviews with the airport directly.

San José and Flagship are planning on expanding the system to incorporate additional sensors, such as throughput counters, to further create a data, demand-based cleaning operation airport wide.
