Raleigh Durham International Airport (RDU)

Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU), located in Raleigh, NC, consists of 2 Terminals and provides access to thirteen (13) different airlines. RDU selected Flagship Facility Services to provide janitorial service airport wide, including office space, gates, restrooms, and all passenger facing areas.

Flagship Facility Services contracted out TRAX Analytics to provide the TRAX Clean+Inspect and TRAX SmartRestroom modules to support their initiative to create a hybrid janitorial model-schedule and demand-based cleaning.

TRAX provided sensor technology at each of the thirty (30) passenger facing restrooms throughout the airport, along with supplying each janitor with mobile app access on iPad tablets. Each restroom was equipped with a battery powered throughput counter to monitor passenger usage, a proximity beacon to monitor janitor check in and out times, and a mixture of QR codes and Near Field Communication stickers located on custom signage to gather passenger feedback on the status of the restroom. The installation of all of the technology took less than three (3) hours.

The TRAX Clean+Inspect and SmartRestoom platform in parallel allows Flagship supervisors to schedule out labor, cleaning work, inspections and project-based work while also seeing the usage of each restroom in real time on live dashboards. Triggers were set for restroom locations to alert janitors in real time when a restroom had seen a set amount of passengers or had received any negative feedback.

Meanwhile, supervisors utilize the Inspect module to run quality control inspections not only on the restrooms and cleaning work, but on elements and assets airport wide. If an area does not meet Flagship and RDU’s quality standards, the supervisor can take images and videos of the asset or work completed and open up and assign a cleaning work ticket in real time.

All of the data is stored in the TRAX platform so that Flagship and RDU can analyze and enhance their operation at any point in time. Historical and real time data analysis supports the executive staff with understanding labor needs, passenger trends, and areas that needs more frequent service.
